Fresh Xpense Capture: Unclogging Stuck Expenses

0

There was a subtle bug introduced in version 1.2 build 45 of Fresh Xpense Capture, the Xpenser iPhone app, that would cause expenses and receipts to not synchronize from the iPhone to the Xpenser website for some users. For the technically inclined, it was related to a thread locking bug on our part during report synchronization.

Bindu quickly resolved the issue and the fine folks at Apple expedited the review to get the new version in the app store, so please be sure to upgrade to the latest version (build 46).

If you have receipts or expenses stuck on the iPhone, please do the following before upgrading to build 46:

If you’re using iOS 3.x, simply close the app, then restart it.

If you’re using iOS 4.x:

  • Open up the Fresh Xpense app
  • Press and hold the power button until the “slide to power off” message is displayed
  • Release the power button, then press the home button until Fresh Xpense quits

Then you should be able to restart Fresh Xpense and the receipts and expenses should start uploading. If it gets stuck again, you’ll need to restart it again using the above instructions.

Xpenser on iPhone: Fresh Xpense Capture Screencast

Fresh Xpense Capture is a lovely iPhone application for capturing expenses and receipts and storing them in Xpenser. Bindu created a very nice screencast showing how to use it, which we’ve embedded below. Take a look, and as always feedback is most welcome as comments here or as email to feedback@xpenser.com (or iphone@xpenser.com for iPhone specific feedback).

Also, be sure to follow FreshXpense on twitter for announcements and updates. And of course you can follow @xpn for general Xpenser news and announcements as well.

New Fresh Xpense Capture with Multi-tasking and iOS4 Support

0

The good folks at Zia Consutling have a new version of Fresh Xpense Capture, an iPhone interface for Xpenser, live in the app store. The latest build fixes some of the issues experienced by those running older versions of iOS, and adds:

  • iPad and iPhone 4 support
  • If a sync is in progress when you quit on iOS4, the sync will attempt to complete
  • Reports and tags now sync automatically on startup (or every hour if backgrounding on iOS4)
  • Can now set receipts from your photo library – good for iPad and iPod Touch Users
  • Link to xpenser.com website at top of configuration screen
  • Single tag entry option for faster form filling if you only ever use one tag per expense
  • Option to only sync over WiFi

The addition of multi-tasking is an interesting one – it means that once you’ve added your receipts you can switch to another app without interrupting the upload to xpenser.com. No more waiting around!

Please give it a try and don’t forget to rate it 5 stars in the App Store :-)

And as always, we love feedback: tell us what you like and don’t like by leaving a comment here or at iphone@xpenser.com .

  • First, take a picture of your receipt
  • Then, email that picture to r@xpenser.com
  • Use the subject of the email to describe the expense – for example, “Parking $8″

iPhone App Testers Wanted!

14

The iPhone app is ready for testing, so if you’re ready to test and give us feedback, we want you!

[Update] Thanks everyone for your responses, we’ve filled up all the spots for now. Feel free to add yourself to the list using the instructions below, but unfortunately we won’t be able to get you into this round of testing. We’ll get you on the list for future rounds, however.

Here are the requirements:

  • You must have an iPhone :-)
  • You must be willing going to use the app and provide feedback. The iPhone testing setup limits the number of testers we can allow, so if you’re not likely to provide feedback please wait till the app is in the app store.
  • You’re familiar with or are willing to learn how to install the app using iTunes. This is fairly straight forward and we can help you, but it’s not as easy is just downloading the app from the app store.

If that sounds like you, please do the following:

  • From your iPhone, go to the App Store and search for the free app “UDID Helper”. Install it.
  • Start the UDID Helper app. Push the “Email to developer” button and enter the address iphone@xpenser.com .

The number of spots are limited so get your emails in. As always, we’re looking forward to your feedback.

And of course we always love to hear from you about Xpenser in general: feedback@xpenser.com .
