Twitter: We’ve Hit The Limit!

Well folks, it seems we’re popular on the internets. It turns out we’ve hit the 2000 follower limit on Twitter and can’t add any more accounts, as you’ve probably noticed if you tried to register a new twitter account with Xpenser in the last day or so.

We’re working with the Twitter folks to fix this. In the meanwhile, our sincere apologies. We’ll get your Twitter fix back on as soon as we can.

I’ll stop following – i can use other ways – let someone else have my twitter “space”

Hugh, please don’t stop following. The issue is the number of users we’re following, not the number of people following us. We have to follow each user so they can send us direct messages (thereby submitting their expenses). That’s what Twitter limits.

Hopefully we can get them to remove the limit for us and resolve this quickly.

I’ve been using Xpenser for quite some time now and I like the way entries may be updated via text, email, IM (including AIM, Yahoo!, Gtalk, MSN, etc.), Voice (via Dial2do), and even Twitter.

While I’m a fan of using micro-blogging for productivity purposes, using Twitter to update an expense is an additional unnecessary step in the process.

If you send a direct message to Twitter via “d xpn…”, it has to be sent to Twitter by a variety of remote methods. The most common being SMS text. Why not just send an SMS directly to Xpenser?

Many productivity services offer several remote communication options including direct SMS, Email, Instant Messenger, Voice, etc. Twitter is sometimes just one additional option which may require an additional unnecessary step. However, some users may opt to go through Twitter because they like to.

Due to both Twitter’s additional step, as well as reliability concerns, it is unnecessary to use the Twitter option when using services like Xpenser, GoPingMe, Google Calendar, etc.

Adam, fair points, but there a few things to consider:

    - Xpenser SMS support is only available in the US and Canada at the moment. Twitter offers SMS access in quite a few countries.

    - Many people make extensive use of Twitter via a desktop client such as Tweetdeck and find it very easy to pop into and fire off an expense.

In any case, we’re very much committed to the Twitter interface and will make sure it becomes available to new users again soon.

It turns out the only way out of the limit is to get more followers, so please make sure you don’t stop following. In fact, please take a minute to follow xpn on twitter.

SMS not working. I was using the application fine and then one day not longer works and the SMS messages are not recognized. The email way of inputing still works.
